Michael Tuma

Michael Tuma is a Principal Biologist currently employed at FirstCarbon Solutions, where they oversee biological surveys and compliance reporting in accordance with California environmental laws. With a robust background in wildlife biology and a strong interest in conservation, Michael has gained extensive experience in population assessments, habitat restoration, and mentorship throughout various roles, including as a Senior Ecologist at WEST, Inc. and an Ecologist with the U.S. Geological Survey. Michael's educational accomplishments include a Ph.D. in Integrative and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Southern California, complemented by multiple master's degrees in Zoology and Anthropology. Additionally, they serve on the Desert Tortoise Council Board of Directors and as an Assistant Editor for a scientific journal focused on herpetological conservation.
