Koen Maertens

Koen Maertens has a diverse and extensive work experience. Koen started their career in 1999 as a PhD Student at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, where they later worked as a Post Doctoral Researcher. In 2004, they joined CNH as an Innovation Specialist before becoming a Visiting PhD student at TU Delft. Following that, they worked at Picanol as a Purchase Engineer, Project Manager Purchase Engineering, and R&D Portfolio Manager. In 2017, they became the Owner of MaerTec and also took on the role of R&D Director at Duco Ventilation & Sun Control. Since 2014, they have been a Member of the Advisory Board at Flanders Make and currently holds the position of CTO since November 2023.

Koen Maertens holds a PhD degree in Mechatronics/Robotics/Industrial Automation, which they obtained from KU Leuven between 1999 and 2004. Prior to that, they earned a Master's degree in Electromechanical Engineering from Ghent University between 1994 and 1999. Earlier in their academic journey, Koen attended College Veurne from 1992 to 1999, although it is unclear if they obtained a degree or pursued a specific field of study at that institution.
