Brian Grunkemeyer

Brian Grunkemeyer has a diverse work experience in the technology industry. Brian is currently the Founder and CEO of FlexCharging, a company they started in November 2019. Prior to that, they were a member of the SeaChange Fund starting in 2015.

Grunkemeyer spent a significant part of their career at Microsoft, where they held various roles. From 2014 to 2019, they worked as a Principal Software Engineer on Microsoft's Big Data team, focusing on designing and operating Azure Data Lake Analytics and Cosmos. Brian was responsible for the compute infrastructure for running jobs on a large scale. Brian also led internal projects to upgrade dependencies and the compiler.

Before that, from 2012 to 2014, they served as a Senior Software Design Engineer, working on Cloud Programmability. Brian designed and built an Actor Framework and Base Class Library for the Cloud, utilizing a high availability, replicated infrastructure. Brian also developed a Windows Phone app that accessed a CloudList<T> backed by actors running on multiple replicas in Azure.

Grunkemeyer's early experience at Microsoft, from 1998 to 2012, was marked by their role as a Senior Software Design Engineer. During this time, they played a key role in designing and writing the .NET Framework Base Class Libraries and Common Language Runtime fundamentals. Brian also contributed to productizing static analysis projects from Microsoft Research, such as Code Contracts.

Brian Grunkemeyer attended Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy from 1991 to 1994, where they completed their high school education. Following this, they enrolled at Carnegie Mellon University from 1994 to 1998. Brian obtained a Bachelor's Degree from the university, with a double major in Computer Science and Cognitive Science.
