Research And Development Engineer at FlexDex Surgical

Christopher Shu has worked in various positions since 2015. In 2015, they participated in the Xiamen Summer Study Program - Clean Energy at the University of Michigan College of Engineering, where they enrolled in a clean energy course in Fujian, China on renewable resources focusing on nuclear power. In 2016, they held an Intern position at ADAPT, LLC. From 2017 to 2018, they worked as a Mechanical Engineering Intern and then a Research and Development Engineer at FlexDex Surgical. During this time, they assisted in the design of components and sub-assemblies in a MIS device to optimize manufacturability, performance, and cost-reduction efforts. Christopher also designed test fixtures and tested prototypes to analyze performance of designs and feasibility of materials, improved patent drawings for clarity, created engineering drawings for RFQs, and conducted feasibility tests to optimize articulation sub-system performance. Finally, in 2017, they were a Student Researcher at the University of Michigan College of Engineering's Secure Cloud Manufacturing (Vertically Integrated Project in MDP), where they were responsible for mechanical design, research, prototyping, simulation, and testing of locating mechanisms and sensor integration for a small-scale manufacturing testbed. Christopher also gained experience using ladder logic programming to program PLCs for automating tasks.

Christopher Shu obtained a High School Diploma from Pan American Christian Academy in 2014. Christopher then attended the University of Michigan, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.S.E.) in Mechanical Engineering in 2018.
