Shaun Layland

Shaun Layland has a diverse work experience spanning several companies and roles. Shaun began their career at Amaze as a Test Manager, where they were responsible for creating test strategies, managing test teams, and overseeing test execution and defect reporting. Shaun then worked at Expotel as a Test Manager and Release Manager on a contract basis before joining the BBC as a Senior Test Engineer, specializing in mobile and web testing. Shaun also worked as a Senior Software Testing Consultant at Testing Circle Ltd and as a Senior Test Consultant at Capita (Expotel) on contracting roles.

Moving forward, Shaun joined Capita Travel and Events as the Head of Software Solutions & QA, where they were accountable for development and testing resourcing and skills. Shaun later took on the role of Head of Product Delivery at the same company, being responsible for product roadmaps delivery, setting strategic direction, and establishing a DevOps culture.

Shaun then transitioned to BAE Systems Applied Intelligence as an Engineering Manager, leading initiatives related to email protection suite platform and managed security services online. Shaun worked closely with product management and owners, managed budgets, and implemented DevOps-based development and deployment processes.

After that, Shaun joined Flexera as a Senior Software Engineering Manager, building and leading teams of software engineers, and later assumed responsibility for Bangalore-based delivery teams. Shaun then moved on to CALYX as the Head of Engineering, where they drove consistency and continual improvement in delivery execution across multiple product verticals.

Currently, Shaun Layland is working as the Engineering Director at Flexera Tech Ops, focusing on application readiness and security solutions.

Shaun Layland attended Helsby High School from 1990 to 1997, where they obtained 4 A Levels in Business Studies, English, Geography, and General Studies. Shaun then went on to study Software Engineering at the University of Liverpool from 1997 to 2001. In addition to their formal education, Shaun has obtained various certifications in subjects such as data analytics, machine learning, problem-solving, leadership skills, and software architecture from institutions like Udemy and One Education. Shaun is also a Certified SAFe® 5 Agilist. Shaun holds a distinction in Car Mechanic Training and is certified in foundation and intermediate software testing. Shaun has obtained an SC clearance, and their year of obtaining varies for some of their certifications.
