Adam Nygaard has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning various roles in the energy industry. Adam is currently serving as the Director of Business Development at FlexGen since February 2023. Prior to this, they worked as the Vice President, Investments at Harbert Management Corporation from November 2021 to February 2023.
Adam has also worked at Duke Energy Corporation, where they held several positions. Adam was the Director - Energy Storage, Microgrid, and CHP Development from March 2021 to November 2021. Before that, they served as the Business Development Manager - CHP, Microgrids, & Energy Storage from October 2016 to March 2021, with a focus on identifying investment opportunities in Distributed Energy Technologies. Additionally, they worked as the Senior Business Analyst at Duke Energy Renewables from March 2015 to October 2016, providing financial analysis and support for wind and solar investments.
Adam's earlier roles at Duke Energy include Senior Audit Consultant from February 2013 to March 2015, where they contributed to audit activities, and as a Nuclear Engineer - Spent Fuel Management from May 2009 to January 2013. In this role, they were responsible for managing dry storage systems procurement, performing analysis, presenting business cases, and overseeing fabrication of storage systems to meet NRC licensing requirements. Adam also fulfilled additional responsibilities such as DOE reimbursement, budgeting, and reporting.
Adam began their professional career as an Intern - BWR Fuels at Entergy in May 2008, gaining practical experience in the industry.
Adam Nygaard earned their Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering from Penn State University, which they attended from 2005 to 2009. In 2013, they completed the Leadership Energy Carolinas program. Adam also obtained certifications such as the Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute in March 2014, the EPA Section 608 Universal Certification from EPA / Mainstream Engineering in July 2011, and the Engineering Intern certification from the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors in December 2009. In 2019, they participated in the Management Development Program at the Harvard Business School.
