Rian Mc Donnell has been involved in a variety of different roles since 2017. In 2017, they were an Undergraduate Researcher at UC Berkeley, where they focused on the creation and manipulation of Graphene and other 2D materials. In 2018, they were a Research Intern at Siemens, where they created a Hardware in the Loop (HIL), virtual robotics testing platform. In 2019, they were a Capstone Researcher at UL, as well as a Co-Founder at DeLive, where they deliver AEDs using Drones, and a Founder and CEO at FloVision Solutions, which reduces waste and increases food yield for food processors and providers.

Rian Mc Donnell completed their high school education at Dundalk Grammar School in 2014, where they earned their Leaving Certificate. Rian then went on to pursue a Bachelor of Engineering - BE (BAI) in Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering at Trinity College Dublin, graduating in 2018. Afterward, they attended University of California, Berkeley for a year, studying Mechanical Engineering. In 2019, they returned to Trinity College Dublin to obtain their Master of Engineering - MEng (MAI) in Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering. Most recently, they earned a Master of Science - MS in Engineering, Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Excellence Masters Program from the University of Notre Dame in 2020. In addition, they obtained an ECDL in March 2012.
