Rande Cherry began their work experience in 2010, when they worked as a Surveying Intern at Scartz Surveying. During this time, they gained firsthand experience and knowledge of surveying and the methods of collecting the necessary information to accurately survey a wide variety of properties. In 2013, Rande began working at Virginia Tech as a Teaching and Research Assistant, where they were responsible for managing and teaching several senior level mechanical design project capstone teams. Rande also taught a junior level heat and mass transfer course lab that they had created from scratch. Additionally, they were a Course Grader, instructing junior level mechanical engineering students on fluid dynamic topics and grading homework, quizzes, and tests for a 150 student class. In 2015, Rande Co-Founded FluxTeq, where they were the V.P. and Applications Engineer. Rande was responsible for all the necessary operations for launching a small business, and FluxTeq was created as a manufacturer of innovative, inexpensive heat flux sensors that accurately measure thermal energy movement. Various systems were being developed utilizing these sensors which could benefit a wide range of industry sectors with applications including medical diagnostic tools, energy efficient HVAC systems and material evaluation.
Rande Cherry obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech in 2013, followed by a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the same institution in 2015. In April 2013, Rande also obtained an Engineer In Training certification from the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).
