Established in 1960, the FM Area Foundation is the oldest and largest community foundation in the region. Created by citizens of Cass County, North Dakota, and Clay County, Minnesota, this community foundation is a tax-exempt public charity that helps people achieve their philanthropic goals. We also work in partnership with concerned citizens, nonprofits, businesses, professional advisors and families to create and manage funds that address community needs. 

The Foundation is made up of over 500 separate charitable funds that have been established by donors for the long-term benefit of the community. Community foundations have the additional responsibility for the grantmaking of the income from these funds to nonprofit organizations.
