Michael Odinet

Chief Medical Officer at FocusPoint International

Dr. Michael Odinet is the Chief Medical Officer for FocusPoint International. Dr. Odinet was born and raised in Arabi La. He attended Louisiana State University where he was a member of the football team and graduated with a BS in Microbiology. Dr. Odinet then attended medical school at LSUHSC in New Orleans, graduating in 2002. Michael completed four years of Emergency Medicine residency training at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, where he served as chief resident in his last year. During that time, Dr. Odinet coordinated all resident duties and schedules during hurricane Katrina and spent 6 days in the hospital caring for patients with minimal resources and no power. After the evacuation, he led efforts to perform search and rescue for trapped citizens in their homes. Coordinating with the military, he then set up mobile medical units throughout the city to care for patients 24 hours a day until rescue efforts were completed. Dr. Odinet eventually established a temporary hospital, while revisions could be made to the LSU interim hospital that is being used today.

After completion of his training, Dr. Odinet was offered a full-time academic faculty position at LSU. He accepted this while also pursuing medicine for a private practice, which brought him to Lafayette in 2006. Dr. Odinet has served on the Medical Executive Committee for the last 3 years at Our Lady of Lourdes hospital.
