One-third of all food produced in South Africa, approximately 10 million tons, is lost or wasted, while millions of people remain food insecure and malnourished.
FoodForward SA is the largest NPO on the continent addressing food insecurity and food loss and waste at scale. We connect a world of excess to a world of need by recovering edible surplus food, which may not be sellable but is still perfectly safe to eat, from farmers, manufacturers, retailers, and other players across the food value chain.
This food is redistributed to our national network of registered and vetted Beneficiary Organisations, collectively reaching nearly 1 million vulnerable people daily.
In partnership with various stakeholders, we implement an integrated ecosystem that uses surplus food as a catalyst for social change, transforming the food waste crisis into a food security solution.
Our innovative model actively promotes 11 of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
