John D. Holmes is Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary at Forcepoint, a global leader in data-first cybersecurity solutions that protect critical information and networks for governments and enterprises across the globe. As Chief Legal Officer, John leads the company’s legal and regulatory affairs, intellectual property creation and protection, litigation, M&A, ethics, and compliance programs. He is also primary advisor to the Forcepoint Board of Directors on cybersecurity law, privacy, and associated regulatory compliance matters.

During his tenure, John initiated Forcepoint’s Executive Security Council which provides cybersecurity and privacy oversight for the company’s internal operations. Additionally, John routinely consults with large enterprise customers on security best practices and balancing interests between effective security and privacy.

John started his legal career in private practice with Thompson & Knight, before embarking on his corporate career with Motorola, followed by Freescale Semiconductor where he served as Vice President, Legal and Government Affairs, until the company’s acquisition by NXP in 2015.

John has a long history of service with many civic and professional organizations. Currently he serves on the United Way for Greater Austin’s board of directors. He has also served on the board of directors and executive committee for the Austin Chamber of Commerce in addition to board of director roles with the Semiconductor Industry Association, Leadership Austin, and the Texas General Counsel Forum.

John earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Economics from Tulane University and his Juris Doctorate degree from Tulane University School of Law.
