The Forum Against Harmful Practices (FAHP) is a national coalition and secretariat dedicated to coordinating and amplifying efforts toward ending Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and other harmful traditional practices across Sierra Leone. Established as a unifying platform for civil society organizations, grassroots groups, and community activists, FAHP works to strengthen collective advocacy for the protection, dignity, and empowerment of women and girls.

FAHP’s mission is to promote gender equality, human rights, and social justice through coordinated advocacy, community mobilization, and partnership engagement. The coalition serves as a bridge between communities, policymakers, and international partners — driving awareness, influencing policy reforms, and building capacity among local actors to deliver sustainable change.

At the heart of FAHP’s work is a zero-tolerance commitment to FGM. The coalition believes that no woman or girl — regardless of age — should face the physical, emotional, or psychological harm associated with harmful cultural practices. FAHP’s advocacy goes beyond awareness-raising; it focuses on creating systems of accountability, community ownership, and behavioral change through inclusive dialogue and empowerment initiatives.

Through partnerships with organizations such as Purposeful, UN agencies, and district-based movements, FAHP has facilitated training sessions, alternative rites of passage programs, and policy dialogues involving traditional and religious leaders. The coalition’s coordination structure ensures that local voices and district partners actively shape national advocacy priorities.

FAHP’s approach integrates media and communication for development, legal advocacy, and grassroots mobilization — ensuring that advocacy efforts are inclusive, evidence-based, and community-led. By building strong relationships with changemakers, government institutions, and the media, FAHP continues to inspire national influence.
