David Koenig has extensive work experience in the gaming and software development industry. David began their career at Low Earth Orbit as a Programmer and worked their way up to become the Lead Programmer. David then joined Comspace, Inc. as a Programmer, primarily focusing on web development with Perl and MySQL. After that, they worked at LithTech, Inc. as a Senior Software Engineer, where they implemented HLSL support for the engine and tool chain and ported PC technology to Xbox.
David then worked at the University of Washington Extension as a Networking and Multiplayer Programming Instructor, teaching classes on network and multiplayer programming. David also served as the Lead Engineer at The Whole Experience (WXP, Inc.), where they led a team of developers and was responsible for developing a multi-threaded resource loading pipeline and optimizing the graphics pipeline.
In 2008, they joined id Software as a Senior Programmer, where they worked on projects such as QUAKE LIVE, RAGE, DOOM (2016), and an undisclosed project. During their time at id Software, they contributed to various aspects of the games, including gameplay, network optimization, and adding features like raw input mouse support and bloom shader support.
David then became the Technical Director at E-Line Media, where they played a key role in building the Seattle studio from scratch. David led technical development on the BAFTA award-winning game Never Alone and managed the in-studio IT operations.
In 2017, David founded The Focused Game Dev, LLC, where they assumed the role of Technical Director and Founder. Currently, they are working as the Director of Engineering at ForwardXP. David is also a member of BAFTA, joining in 2020. Through their work experience, David has built a strong foundation in game development, programming, and technical leadership in the industry.
David Koenig pursued their education, starting in 1995, at Wharton County Junior College where they obtained an Associate of Applied Science in Electronics. David then transferred to the University of Houston in 1997 and successfully completed their Bachelor of Science in Technology with a focus on Computer Engineering in the year 2000.
