Cesar Saez

Lead Research Engineer, A.i. at Foundry

Cesar Saez has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of computer graphics. Cesar started their career as a 3D Generalist at 3dmedia in 2006 and later worked as a Character Technical Director at various studios such as Ideas Fijas, McFly Studio, Gizmo, and Digital Rebel. At Gizmo, they served as the Lead Character Technical Director and was responsible for leading rigging-related tasks and developing systems/tools for major commercial projects.

In 2009, Cesar joined Kandor Graphics as a Senior Character Technical Director and later became the Rigging Supervisor. Cesar played a crucial role in implementing the rigging system and tools for the animated feature film "Justin and the Knights of Valour" using Softimage.

Cesar's next role was at Able&Baker as a Character Technical Director, where they worked on developing the hero character for the TV series "Momochi" and created custom deformers and animation tools.

Cesar then joined Animal Logic as a Software Engineer in R&D and contributed to the design and development of the rigging framework for feature films like the LEGO Franchise and Peter Rabbit. Additionally, they were the main maintainer of the in-house rigging authoring application. Cesar also worked on transitioning to new pipelines based on Pixar's Universe Scene Description (USD).

Before joining Foundry as a Lead Research Engineer in A.I., Cesar worked at DNEG as a Software Engineer in R&D. Their responsibilities included developing the asset management system based on Pixar's USD and leading the development of asset resolution core libraries in multi-threaded environments.

At Foundry, Cesar's role involved bringing the power of machine learning to artists and creatives using Foundry products and focusing on high-performance computing and technologies related to virtual production.

Overall, Cesar Saez has gained significant expertise and exposure to various aspects of computer graphics, ranging from rigging and animation tools development to asset management and machine learning research.

Cesar Saez obtained an Academic Degree of Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering and a Professional Degree of Construction Engineer from Universidad Central (CL) between 2000 and 2005.
