Barbara Camacho

Barbara Camacho has a comprehensive work experience in the field of immigration law and advocacy. Barbara started their career in 2005 as a Judicial Intern at the Superior Court of New Jersey, where they conducted legal research on criminal law issues and drafted memoranda.

In 2007, Barbara served as a Judicial Law Clerk at the Superior Court of New Jersey, further honing their skills in criminal law. Barbara conducted research on procedural and substantive criminal law issues, drafted memoranda proposing resolutions, and prepared statements of reasons for various appeals.

In 2009, Barbara joined the American Friends Service Committee as a KIND Fellow. In this role, they represented minors in immigration proceedings, researched state and federal law, and drafted applications for various immigration remedies, including Asylum and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status.

In 2011, Barbara became the Fragomen Fellow at the City Bar Justice Center, a role in which they directed the Immigrant Outreach Project and the Varick Removal Defense Project. Barbara recruited, trained, and mentored pro bono attorneys to provide legal representation to detained immigrants in the New York metropolitan area.

Barbara joined Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy LLP in 2014 as Pro Bono Manager, and later became the firm's first Pro Bono Counsel in October 2016. In this role, they are responsible for managing the firm's pro bono initiatives throughout the United States, coordinating and mentoring Fragomen attorneys in their pro bono representation of clients in removal proceedings, asylum cases, and applications for immigration benefits.

In addition to their work at Fragomen, Barbara has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University since 2014, teaching courses related to immigration law.

Barbara's dedication to immigrant rights is further exemplified by their position as Chair of the Board of Directors at the Northern Manhattan Coalition for Immigrant Rights (NMCIR). Barbara has been with NMCIR since 2013, leading the organization in its mission to educate, defend, and protect the rights of immigrants.

Barbara Camacho obtained their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Sociology from Drew University, where they studied from 1996 to 2000. Barbara later pursued their legal education at Seton Hall University School of Law, earning a J.D. degree between 2004 and 2007.
