Mike Martin is a Tax Consultant in Frazier & Deeter’s State & Local Tax practice with more than 25 years of experience in tax. Mike specializes in indirect tax consulting, including sales, use and personal property tax. He offers clients deep expertise in preparing refund requests in sales, use and personal property tax as well as value reduction requests in instances of pollution control, economic obsolescence and property tax abatement.
Mike advises clients in all industries, but he has vast experience in the healthcare and manufacturing industries, including acting as the Vice President of Tax for HealthSouth Corporation where he oversaw all indirect tax matters.
Prior to joining the firm, Mike was a Partner in a Birmingham Tax Advisory firm where he was responsible for handling indirect tax refund processes for manufacturing and healthcare companies and audit defense in Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Mississippi, Florida and Arkansas.
Earlier in his career, Mike served as the Vice President of Tax for HealthSouth, a $4 billion healthcare provider operating in 50 states, for nine years. This gave Mike a deep understanding of the challenges facing healthcare providers in navigating changing tax codes.
After serving in the U.S. military, Mike launched his tax career with the Florida Department of Revenue, where he conducted Sales & Use tax audits for four years. He then served as a Senior Consultant for KPMG for two years prior to establishing his own tax consulting firm.
Mike has published work in the Institute for Professionals in Taxation’s 1st Edition. He authored Chapter 15 for the Healthcare industry in the Sales and Use Tax Reference Manual.
