The preeminence of storytelling as a way to reach people has been wholly supplanted by the importance of data. The artists retreat as the engineers ascend. But just as the power of narrative was insufficient a few years ago, the power of numbers is insufficient now. 

Neither an all-encompassing commitment to storytelling nor a single-minded dedication to data fosters the cross-organizational fluidity required to build products and to evolve processes that propel corporate innovation.

The universe seeks balance: Story provides purpose; data provides direction. She who finds equilibrium between the two will lead the next decade.
