Mitchell May

Mitchell May is an accomplished geologist with extensive experience in resource geology and mining operations. Currently serving as Chief Geologist at Freeport-McMoRan since February 2024, Mitchell leads the Morenci Resource Geology team, focusing on infill and exploration drilling as well as resource modeling and estimation. Prior roles at Freeport-McMoRan included Senior Geologist, where responsibilities encompassed overseeing resource/reserves models and supervising ore control teams. Mitchell's experience also includes serving as Senior Mine Geologist at Nyrstar, contributing to resource development at the Middle Tennessee Mines. Education credentials include a Master of Science in Geology from Sul Ross State University and a Bachelor of Science in Geology from Eastern Kentucky University, complemented by coursework in Geographic Information Science and Cartography.
