Freewheels Houston is an all-volunteer nonprofit that repairs donated bicycles and gives them to people who need reliable transportation — refugees building new lives, veterans emerging from homelessness, and young people from low-income families trying to get to work and school.

A bike doesn't solve everything. But it solves something immediate and important: it gives people the ability to move through their lives on their own terms.

Since 2015 we have put more than 3,000 bikes into the hands of Houstonians who needed them. Every bike we distribute was donated by a community member, repaired by a volunteer, and matched carefully to the person who will ride it.

Our well-equipped shop at 6020 Jessamine in the Gulfton area is open every Friday and Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to noon..

Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome — from beginners who want to learn to experienced mechanics who want to put their skills to work.
