Brian Smart

Brian Smart is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in disaster management and humanitarian response. Currently serving as a Humanitarian Response Team member at RedR Australia since January 2023, Brian has also held key roles as Zone Commander for Newcastle/Lake Macquarie and Capability Manager for Emergency Management at Fire and Rescue NSW since June 2021. Additionally, Brian is a contractor with the Asian Development Bank, providing disaster recovery expertise, and was deployed to Vanuatu for post-disaster assessments in 2023. Previous positions include Technical Advisor for the Vanuatu National Disaster Management Office, Manager of the Fire Safety Command Liaison Unit at Fire & Rescue NSW, and Disaster Management Specialist with the Australian Civilian Corps. Brian holds an Executive Masters of Public Administration from the Australia New Zealand School of Government, complemented by education from the Australian Institute of Police Management and Hurlstone Agricultural High School.
