Denis Knauer serves as the Regional Coordinator for the Western Balkans in the International Cooperation Unit at Frontex since May 2024. Additionally, Denis has been an Adjunct Faculty Member at the George C. Marshall Center since November 2016, focusing on countering transnational organized crime. Previously, Denis held the position of Executive Officer for Strategy & Policy Matters at the Federal Ministry of the Interior from April 2021 to May 2024, dealing with EU multilevel security governance and international security cooperation. Denis also served in various roles at the Federal Ministry of the Interior from 2013 to 2020, including Deputy Head of Operations for Aviation Security & Border Management, overseeing aviation security and border management. Academic involvement includes a Summer School Lecturer position at Rijksuniversiteit Groningen in 2018-2019, specializing in illicit trade. Denis holds a Master's degree in Criminal Justice, Governance & Police Science from Ruhr University Bochum and additional qualifications in criminology and public administration.
