Dr. Lars Gerdes

Dr. Lars Gerdes currently serves as the Deputy Executive Director at Frontex since February 2022, bringing extensive experience in international police cooperation and security management. Previous roles include Head of Department 41 and Deputy Head of Division 4 at Bundespolizeipraesidium, and Head of the Africa/Asia Team at Bundesministerium des Innern und für Heimat. Dr. Gerdes has also held significant positions in Afghanistan, including Head of Mission for the German Police Project Team and Senior Police Advisor. An academic background includes a PhD in Transnational Organized Crime and International Police Missions from the University of Cologne, along with a Master's in Police Science and Management, and a Master's in International Studies and Security.
