Thandiwe Malefo is an experienced regulatory compliance professional currently serving as the Regulatory Compliance Manager for Insurance Supervision at the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) of South Africa since July 2019, focusing on ensuring fair outcomes for users of insurance products and services. Prior to this role, Thandiwe worked at Nedbank from April 2013 to July 2019, advancing from Senior Financial Officer to Financial Manager within the Card Issuing & Acceptance teams, managing various issuing card services portfolios. Earlier experience includes a position as a Cost and Management Accountant at the Land and Agricultural Development Bank of South Africa from April 2010 to March 2013, where responsibilities included preparing management reports and serving as a finance business partner for multiple projects. Thandiwe holds a Bachelor of Accounting Sciences degree from the University of the Witwatersrand, completed in 2009.

The FSCA's mandate is to enhance the efficiency and integrity of financial markets; promote fair customer treatment by financial institutions; provide financial education and promote financial literacy; and assist in maintaining financial stability in South Africa. This is in line with the Twin Peaks model of financial sector regulations, as envisioned in the Financial Sector Act 2017 (FSRA).
