Mathieu Ruiz

Data Analytics Director at Funcom

Mathieu Ruiz began their work experience in 2006 as a Volunteer Bachelor Intern at CerCo, where they focused on the ultra-rapid processing of images. Mathieu then continued at CerCo as a Master 1 Intern, exploring the interaction between real and synesthetic colors in grapheme-color synesthesia using the Stroop paradigm. After that, they worked as a Master 2 Intern at CerCo, studying the categorization of colors in non-synesthete subjects and grapheme-color synesthetes using a visual search paradigm and eye-tracking recording.

In 2010, Mathieu joined the Institut des neurosciences de Grenoble as a PhD student in Neuroscience. During their time there, they managed a project comparing neural networks involved in real and imagined color perception in synesthetes and control subjects using fMRI and multivariate analysis.

Mathieu then worked at CNRS - Centre national de la recherche scientifique as a Postdoctoral Fellow at CerCo, where they utilized functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) to compare the neural networks of perception and production of speech and writing. Mathieu applied multivariate analyses to test whether these modalities share neural networks.

In 2015, Mathieu joined Fremen Corp as a Scientific Manager for a brief period. The following year, they worked as a Substitute Teacher in Life and Earth Sciences at National Education.

In 2016, Mathieu joined Square Enix as a Data Analyst, where they analyzed game telemetry for various games such as Marvel's Avengers, Outriders, Dragon Quest XI, Tomb Raider series, and more. Mathieu then progressed to Senior Data Analyst and Technical Manager - Analytics and Insight, overseeing the design, production, and analysis of game telemetry for multiple projects.

Currently, Mathieu is employed at Funcom as the Lead Game Data Analyst. Starting in 2022, they are responsible for analyzing game data to improve game development processes. In 2024, they transition to the role of Data Analytics Director at the same company.

Mathieu Ruiz completed their education with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Cognitive Neurosciences from Université Joseph Fourier (Grenoble I) between 2010 and 2014. Mathieu also holds a Bachelor's degree in Operational Management from Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers, a Certificate (MOOC) in Gaming Literacy and learning from New York Institute of Technology, a Certificate (MOOC) in Concepts in Game Development from Swinburne University of Technology, a Master 2 in Cognitive Neurosciences from ENS / EHESS / Paris V, and a Licentiate degree in Life and health sciences from Université Paul Sabatier Toulouse III.
