Puna Foundation was born in 2020, during the pandemic, from community-based initiatives in Jujuy that began by supporting children and families during isolation. Over time, that work grew into a nonprofit organization dedicated to territorial accompaniment, community health, environmental justice, and the defense of collective rights in the Puna and Quebrada regions of northern Argentina.
Today, Puna Foundation is a U.S.-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization working alongside Indigenous communities, local populations, grassroots organizations, universities, and international partners in Argentina and Latin America. Our work supports community-led processes related to water protection, territorial rights, Indigenous rights, gender equality, public health, medicinal plants, access to knowledge, habitat, and civic innovation.
We do not work from an assistance-based or external approach. We walk alongside communities, recognizing their political, cultural, and spiritual leadership, and strengthening processes that are born from the territories themselves. Inspired by Ayni — the Andean principle of reciprocity we understand social work as a horizontal practice rooted in respect, memory, dignity, and collective self-determination.
