Avi Sheshachalam

Avi Sheshachalam has a diverse work experience in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Currently, they hold the position of VP of Product at Future Fields, a biotech company focused on utilizing the common fruit fly to produce recombinant proteins for various industries. Prior to this, Avi worked as the Vice President of Research and Development at Future Fields, where they helped develop their flexible platform combining synthetic biology and insect-based expression.

Before joining Future Fields, Avi worked at TropIQ Health Sciences as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist, where they focused on infectious diseases transmitted by mosquitoes and ticks. Avi worked on identifying systemic insecticides and repellents to reduce vector-borne illnesses. Avi also worked as a Technical Consultant at TropIQ Health Sciences.

Avi's academic background includes a PhD in Immunology from the University of Alberta. Avi'sresearch focused on allergic inflammation and the role of Rho GTPases and peroxisomes in immune response. Avi used various techniques such as CRISPR, RNAi, cell culture studies, protein production, and microscopy.

Earlier in their career, Avi worked as a Junior Research Associate at Jubilant Biosys Ltd, where they contributed to the identification and validation of novel compounds against cancer targets. Avi also worked as an academic research assistant at the University of Aberdeen, helping with research and media coverage of biotech products.

Additionally, Avi gained research experience as a Research Assistant at ImmunoSolv Ltd, where they worked on characterizing a novel antibody using flow cytometry and western blotting techniques.

Avi Sheshachalam completed their education in a chronological order. First, from 2006 to 2009, they attended the University of Mysore, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology. Following this, from 2009 to 2010, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Medical Biotechnology with biobusiness at the University of Aberdeen. Lastly, from 2014 to 2018, Avi attended the University of Alberta, where they completed their education by earning a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Cell Biology.
