Senior Research Scientist I at Future Fields

Thuy Nguyen's work experience starts in 2012 as an Undergraduate Student Researcher at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where they focused on fabricating nanoporous gold membranes for separations. Thuy continued their research at the University of Alberta as a Graduate Research Assistant, working on improving the sensitivity of surface plasmon resonance substrates and developing new surface chemistry. Thuy also worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant during this time. Thuy then worked as a Visiting Researcher at Osaka Prefecture University, where they researched the development of optical sol-gel-based pH and CO2 sensors. Thuy also gained experience as a Paralegal at Le&Le Attorneys at Law, focusing on intellectual property. Thuy then worked as an Online Tutor at StudioCity before joining Graphene Leaders Canada as a Research Associate and Scientific Lead, where they conducted research from April to August 2021. Thuy currently works at Future Fields (YC S20) as a Research Scientist and is also a Mitacs Accelerate Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Alberta.

Thuy Nguyen completed their education in Analytical Chemistry. Thuy obtained a Bachelor of Science degree with honors from Vietnam National University, Hanoi, where they studied from 2009 to 2014. Thuy later pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Alberta, which they completed from 2015 to 2021. Thuy also has additional certifications in various areas, including communication in the workplace, finance, management, project management, negotiation, problem-solving and decision-making, entrepreneurship, business writing, and time management. Thuy obtained these certifications from Coursera in January 2021. Additionally, they obtained the WHMIS certification from the University of Alberta in September 2015.
