Bill Chalkley

Senior Associate at FXCollaborative

Bill's wide range of expertise covers a myriad of project types from multi-family residential buildings and adaptive reuse to commercial office towers and urban design. From the development of early concepts to their execution as meticulously crafted details, Bill views architectural design as a collaborative endeavor in which the team must work closely together to guide the development and the scheme.

Standing out from early memories of driving with his parents around Washington, D.C., was visiting Eero Saarinen's sculptural Dulles Airport. Even as a boy, Bill loved engaging with the architecture and the excitement of travel, visiting the observation deck and riding on the people movers. In pursuing his degree in architecture from Virginia Tech, Bill explored the psychology of space, enhancing his architecture studies with philosophy and the films of the New Wave and Italian directors such Michelangelo Antonioni.

Bill continues to consider the psychological impact of architecture, from scale and urban context to the quality of materials. Along with addressing the technical aspect of sustainability he feels the simple desire to make better buildings. To craft spaces to the highest standard, Bill invests in efficiently absorbing changing needs and processing different options—all in the service of contributing positively to the urban environment.
