Jim believes that a great building not only achieves programmatic requirements but also inspires those who use it every day. With experience on significant projects throughout the world, encompassing a wide range of typologies, Jim prides himself on a rigorous design approach and maintaining excellent communication with clients and project teams.
Visiting the United States Air Force Academy Cadet Chapel as a boy was a defining moment for Jim. Its design was both highly rational and sculpturally beautiful, and was unlike anything he had seen before. This later led him to the University of Cincinnati, where he received both a bachelor's and master's degree in Architecture, and was awarded “Best in Show” for his thesis project. In architecture school, he was inspired by design that required intense rigor and craftsmanship, yet looked effortless in its execution.
From initial concept design through construction, Jim investigates the complex relationships between structural and material connections, taking great pride in the execution of beautiful details. He also believes a successful design should optimize building performance and minimize its environmental impact, ultimately reshaping urban life for the better.
