As partner, John leads and manages the Urban Studio with a focus on integrating sustainable design within the vision for each project, building, or master plan. An invaluable member of the team, John understands a city's evolution must consistently support and nurture a growing community from an economic, environmental, and urban perspective.
Born in Green Bay, Wisconsin, John was raised by an artist mother and a cabinet-maker father, with whom he helped to construct a family home at age nine. The formative experience led to undergraduate and master's studies at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Boston Architectural Center, and Harvard University's Graduate School of Design.
A member of the American Institute of Architects, John is a frequent teacher and lecturer and has been featured in numerous publications. He has served as the project director on a variety of large-scale projects including 3 Hudson Boulevard in Manhattan; 888 Boylston in Boston; Proto Kendall Square, a residential tower in Cambridge, Massachusetts; the Penn Station District Master Plan in Manhattan; Georgia Multi-Modal Passenger Terminal in Atlanta, Georgia; and the 420 Carroll Street Residential Towers in Brooklyn, NY.
