Gaijin Mode is an unusual Japanese learning app.

It is a voice-first and immersive Japanese learning game. Instead of grinding through multiple-choice quizzes, learners are dropped into digital Japan where they can:

1. Go through different kinds of structured scenarios (e.g. asking for a plastic bag at a convenience store, asking for directions at a train station, ordering food at restaurants, etc).

2. Have free-form conversations with different AI characters in spoken Japanese. They can engage them in emotionally engaging topics like work, hobbies, family and more, instead of canned topics that they usually have to go through in traditional language learning apps.
