Mike Backus

Mike Backus is the current Director at Galatea Technologies. Prior to this, they were with Kiwetinohk Energy Corp., Alionyx Energy Systems Inc., and InterGen. From September 2019 to October 2020, they were the Vice President, Operations and Development at Painted Pony Energy Ltd., where they were responsible for executive leadership through the corporate sale of Painted Pony to Canadian Natural Resources.

Backus began their career with Nexen/CNOOC in August 2018 as the VP of Canadian Operations, responsible for the company's oilsands operations as well as their gas and power assets. In August 2013, they became the VP of Operations for NEXEN PETROLEUM U.K. LIMITED, a position they held until July 2018 when they returned to Nexen Inc. as Treasurer, a role they served in until April 1997.

Mike Backus has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from the University of Saskatchewan.
