Michael Jernigan began their work experience in 2013 at the Virginia Tech Language and Culture Institute, where they served as a Program Coordinator and later as a Program Assistant for the Hubert H. Humphrey International Fellowship. Michael then went on to become a Program Coordinator for the Mandela Washington Fellowship in 2016. In 2018, Michael joined MasTec as a Site Acquisition Specialist, and later became a Senior Site Acquisition Specialist. Most recently, in 2022, they joined Galehead Development as a Business Development Associate.
Michael Jernigan pursued a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in International Relations and Affairs from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) from 2015 to 2017. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in International/Global Studies from Virginia Tech between 2009 and 2012. In addition to their formal education, Michael has acquired various certifications in areas such as decision-making strategies, critical thinking mindset, leading productive meetings, business writing principles, giving and receiving feedback, prioritizing tasks, and communicating with confidence, through online platforms like LinkedIn. Furthermore, in 2013, they obtained the DSO certification from the Student and Exchange Visitor Program.
