Clinical Research Coordinator - WA at Garvan Institute of Medical Research

Amy Pearn has a diverse work experience in the field of genetic counseling and clinical research. Amy founded The Gene Council in 2019 and works as a Certified Genetic Counselor. In 2020, they joined the Garvan Institute of Medical Research as a Clinical Research Coordinator for Western Australia. Amy also worked as a Project Officer and Consultant Genetic Counselor for the Human Genetics Society of Australasia and as the WA Implementation Lead for Cancer Council NSW, both in 2019. Prior to that, they worked at Genetic Services of WA as a Senior Genetic Counselor from 2010 to 2018 and as a Genetic Counselor from 2010 to 2010. Amy also worked as a Family History Assessor for the New Zealand Familial Gastrointestinal Cancer Registry in 2009 and as a Genetic Counselor for the Division of Medical Genetics, Royal University Hospital from 2007 to 2008. In 2005, Amy interned with the World Health Organization in their Human Genetics Programme.

Amy Pearn has a solid educational background in genetic counselling and biochemistry. Amy completed their Master of Genetic Counselling (MGenCoun) and Graduate Diploma (GDip) in Genetic Counselling at the University of Newcastle from 2000 to 2002 and from 2000 to 2001, respectively. Prior to this, they obtained their Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biochemistry from Queen's University, where they studied from 1996 to 2000.

In addition to their academic degrees, Amy has acquired several certifications throughout their career. Amy completed the Change Management Foundations course from LinkedIn in May 2020 and the Communicating Across Cultures course from LinkedIn in April 2020. Amy also obtained the FHGSA certification from the Human Genetics Society of Australasia in an unspecified year, and the CCGC certification from the Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors in 2007.
