Jim Blackburn has extensive work experience in the field of genomics and molecular biology.
From 1998 to 1999, they worked as a Laboratory Technician at the Wellcome Sanger Institute.
From 2004 to 2010, they were a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at King's College London, where they investigated the molecular signaling pathways involved in craniofacial anomalies.
Since 2010, Jim has been associated with the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. Jim Blackburn obtained their Bachelor of Science degree in Genetics from The University of Manchester from 1996 to 2000. Jim then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Molecular Genetics at Imperial College London from 2000 to 2004. In addition to their academic qualifications, Jim has obtained several certifications. These include "Provide First Aid" from CBD College Pty Limited in December 2022, "Garvan Leadership Development Program" from Serendis Leadership in December 2020, "NSW Medical Research Institute Research Leader Development Program" from Marlow Hampshire Pty Ltd in July 2017, "Work Health and Safety Training (Effective Health and Safety Committee Course)" from Courtenell Pty Ltd in December 2014, and another "Provide First Aid" certification from St John Ambulance Australia (NSW) in December 2013.
