John Reeves

John Reeves has a diverse work experience across multiple industries. John began their career as an Area Manager at Kumon Australia & New Zealand in 1997. John then worked as an Assistant Project Manager at NTT Australia Pty Ltd in 2001. In 1999, they served as Coordinator for International Relations in the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program (JET). John worked as a Laboratory Assistant at the University of Technology Sydney from 1998 to 1999.

Moving into the field of research, John became a Research Intern at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research from February 2015 to September 2016. John then joined Urban Ecological Systems Limited as a Research and Development Specialist from August 2017 to March 2020.

In 2019, John took on various roles at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. This included working as a Research Assistant from September 2019 to March 2021, where they focused on analyzing transcriptomic data for patients with rare autoimmune conditions and investigating the genetic contribution to autism and poor sleep. John also created a catalogue linking clinical information to genomic datasets and developed databases for storage of cohort metadata.

During the same period, John worked as a Data Manager from July 2021 onwards and as a Bioinformatics Education Officer from August 2019 to June 2021 at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. John'sresponsibilities included managing data and providing education on bioinformatics.

John also had experience as a Technical Translator for over 19 years as a freelance translator until December 2020. John briefly worked as a Technical Writer/Trainer at Fujitsu Australia Software Technology from July 2019 to September 2019.

John Reeves completed their Bachelor's Degree in Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, and Mathematics from the University of Tasmania between 2013 and 2016. Prior to that, from 1993 to 1996, they obtained another Bachelor's Degree from the University of Sydney, majoring in Linguistics, Semiotics, Japanese, and Mandarin. Additionally, John has acquired several certifications in various subjects related to their field. In 2016, they received a certification in Dynamical Modeling Methods for Systems Biology from Coursera Course Certificates. In 2015, they completed The Data Scientist's Toolbox course, also from Coursera Course Certificates. In 2014, they obtained several certifications including Experimental Methods in Systems Biology, Introduction to Systems Biology, Mathematical Biostatistics Boot Camp 2, and Mathematical Biostatistics Boot Camp 1, all from Coursera Course Certificates.
