Katherine Champ

Katherine Champ has a diverse work experience in the fields of data science, technology scouting, project management, and research.

Katherine is currently employed as a Program Manager for the Data Science Platform at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, a position they started in 2023.

Prior to this, Katherine worked at Medtronic from 2018 to 2023, where they held the role of Technology Scout & Program Manager. In this role, they identified and funneled emerging technologies into the Surgical Innovations business, managed the Medtronic AI Working Group, and led strategic collaborations and competitive landscape assessments.

From 2014 to 2018, Katherine worked at Bioplatforms Australia as a Project Officer. Katherine managed a million-dollar clinical genomics capacity-building grant and national bioinformatics training program, organizing workshops and delivering outcomes for national and state programs.

Before that, Katherine was a Research Assistant at the Centenary Institute from 2012 to 2014. Katherine developed new research techniques and implemented technical analysis, increasing efficiency. Katherine also worked as a Laboratory Assistant at the University of Sydney, where they developed a scientific model to investigate the inflammatory effects of obesity and diabetes on the human body and taught these techniques to others.

Katherine Champ completed their Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Biochemistry and Marine Science at Macquarie University from 2006 to 2010. Katherine then pursued further education and obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc. Honours) degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Sydney in 2011 and 2012.

In addition to their academic qualifications, Katherine Champ has also obtained several certifications. Katherine completed a certification in Data Fluency Language and Modeling from Data Coach in May 2022. Prior to that, they obtained a certification in Building Business Acumen from Acumen Learning in March 2021. In December 2019, they completed a certification titled "Machine Learning: From Data to Decisions" from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Katherine has further certifications in Data Fluency, including Data Fluency Cleaning and Structuring Data (obtained in April 2019), Data Fluency Human Centered Design (obtained in April 2019), and Data Fluency Data Operations (obtained in April 2018). Katherine also holds certifications in Power BI Desktop Foundations and Power BI Desktop Practitioner, both obtained from Data Coach in April 2018. Additionally, they achieved the NetWorkWise Certified Professional (NWW-CP) certification from NetWorkWise in December 2017.
