Marcel Batten has a diverse work experience, starting with their current role as a Program Manager at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research since November 2022. Prior to that, they worked as a Networks Project Manager at The University of Sydney, Widening Participation and Outreach from March 2018 to November 2022. They also served as an Immuno-oncology Researcher at Melanoma Institute Australia from March 2018 to March 2020. Before that, they were a Network Co-ordinator at the Clinical Immunogenetics Research Consortium Australia (CIRCA) from January 2016 to March 2018. They held the position of Conjoint Senior Lecturer at UNSW Australia from January 2010 to March 2018. Marcel also has experience as a Laboratory Head at The Garvan Institute from September 2008 to March 2017. They served as an NSW Councillor at the Australasian Society for Immunology from December 2011 to December 2014. Marcel's career started as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Genentech from January 2004 to June 2008.
Marcel Batten pursued their education at UNSW, where they completed a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Advanced Science, with a specialization in Molecular Genetics. This took place from 1996 to 1999. Following this, Marcel continued their academic journey at the same institution and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Medicine. This degree was completed between 2000 and 2004.
