Thomas Cox

Laboratory Head (faculty) - Matrix & Metastasis at Garvan Institute of Medical Research

Thomas Cox has a diverse work experience in the field of medical research and academia. Thomas is currently working at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research as a Laboratory Head (Faculty) in the Matrix & Metastasis department since November 2020. Prior to this role, they served as a Group Leader in the same department from October 2016 to October 2020.

At UNSW, Thomas held various positions, starting as a Senior Lecturer from October 2016 to August 2020, and currently serving as an Associate Professor since September 2020.

In addition to their roles in academia, Thomas has been actively involved with the METASTASIS RESEARCH SOCIETY. Thomas served as the Director of Communications since October 2020 and has been an Executive Board Member since September 2016. From September 2012 to August 2018, they were the Chair of the Early Career Leadership Council (ECLC) within the society.

Thomas started their research career at the Biotech Research & Innovation Centre (BRIC) at the University of Copenhagen in April 2012 as a Senior PostDoctoral Research Fellow until September 2016.

Prior to this, they worked as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow at The Institute of Cancer Research from May 2008 to March 2012.

Thomas Cox received their B.Sc. (Hons) in Cell and Molecular Biology from Durham University, starting in 2001 and completing their studies in 2004. Following this, they pursued a Ph.D. in Cancer Cell Biology, also at Durham University, from 2004 to 2008.
