Zhe Li

Zhe Li serves as the Senior Vice President of Medicine Design at Gate Bioscience since January 2024. Previously, Zhe held the position of Vice President of Chemistry at Pfizer from October 2022 to January 2024, and prior to that, Zhe was Vice President of Chemistry at Global Blood Therapeutics, Inc., where Zhe played a pivotal role in the discovery and early development of GBT440 (Voxelotor) and led the discovery of GBT021601 (Osivelotor) targeting sickle cell disease. Zhe Li's academic background includes serving as an Associate Professor at the University of California, San Francisco, focusing on medicinal chemistry for neurodegenerative diseases, and experience as a Principal Scientist at Takeda and SGX Pharmaceuticals. Zhe’s early career includes roles at ArQule and Scriptgen. Zhe holds a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of California, San Francisco, and a BSc in Chemistry from Peking University and Lanzhou University.
