John Murphy

John Murphy is a seasoned communications professional with extensive experience in content creation and journalism. Currently serving as Senior Content Director at Gates Ventures since January 2014, John previously held the role of Senior Writer and Senior Communications Officer at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where responsibilities included crafting speeches and producing videos highlighting the Foundation's global impact. Prior to that, John worked as a Tokyo Correspondent for The Wall Street Journal, focusing on the Japanese economy and international relations. Earlier career roles included Middle East Bureau Chief and Africa Bureau Chief at The Baltimore Sun, where management of international teams and reporting on critical regional issues were key responsibilities. John holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Rice University and a Master’s in Journalism/Communications from the University of Michigan.
