Darren Smith

Darren Smith has a diverse work experience spanning over a period of nearly 30 years. Darren began their career as a Senior Accountant at Price Bailey LLP in 1991 and worked there until 1995. Darren then moved on to Leonard Cheshire as a Regional Accountant from 1995 to 1997, followed by a promotion to Regional Finance Manager until 1999.

Smith then joined Pearl Assurance in 1999, where they served as a Systems Accountant until 2000, and later as a Senior Financial Analyst until 2001. Darren then transitioned to Pearl Group as a Financial Control Consultant from 2001 to 2004, and subsequently as a Group Finance Manager until 2006.

From 2006 to 2009, Smith served as the Head of PGS Finance at Pearl Group Services Ltd. Darren then moved to Phoenix Group, where they worked as a Group Finance Consultant from 2009 to 2010, and later as a Planning and Reporting Manager until 2011.

In 2011, Smith took on the role of Director at Ergo Finance Solutions Ltd, where they provided financial and business modeling consultancy services and developed financial reporting software. Darren simultaneously worked at GÉANT as a Financial Controller from 2011 to 2016, and later as the Head of Group Finance until 2019. Currently, they hold the position of Head of Finance and Compliance at GÉANT.

Darren Smith obtained their FCCA degree from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants between 1991 and 1996. Darren also obtained certification in Advanced Microsoft Power BI from LinkedIn in 2019.
