They held various roles at the Scheepvaartinspectie, including Head of Maritime Accident Investigation, and later worked as a managerial advisor at the Inspectie Leefomgeving en Transport. Currently, Simons serves as the Deputy Mayor and Alderman for Port, Economy, Hospitality, and Governance in Rotterdam, having been active in the Leefbaar Rotterdam party since 2004. Robert has also contributed to various committees and initiatives aimed at making Rotterdam a safer and more livable city.
