Derek Cunningham

Derek Cunningham is an experienced Space System Safety Engineer V at General Atomics since September 2023, previously serving as a System Safety Engineer Staff and Senior at Lockheed Martin from July 2019 to September 2023. Prior to that, Derek worked at Newport News Shipbuilding, where roles included Industrial Hygienist and Health and Safety Analyst from October 2013 to July 2019, focusing on exposure assessments, regulatory compliance, and safety representation for critical projects. Derek began his career as a qualified Radiation Control Technician, demonstrating expertise in ionizing radiation safety. Academic credentials include a Master of Systems Engineering from The George Washington University, a Bachelor of Applied Science from James Madison University, and an Associate of Science from Thomas Nelson Community College.
