John Gorman

Sr. Manager, Instrument Engineering at GenMark Diagnostics

John Gorman has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. John began their career as a Scientist ND-3 at NSWC Corona in 2005. John then worked as a Consulting Test Engineer at Helixis from 2007 to 2008. After that, they joined eSolar as a Senior Test Engineer from 2008 to 2010. During this time, they conducted test events for solar thermal components and prototypes.

Following their time at eSolar, John worked as a Consulting Test Engineer for various companies from 2010 to 2011. John then joined the California Institute of Technology in 2011 as a Project Test Engineer and Graduate Student. In this role, they led the delivery of a PCR-based HIV diagnostics system under a Gates Foundation grant. John was responsible for designing, manufacturing, and testing prototypes, as well as maintaining project schedules and managing resources.

Most recently, John has been working at GenMark Diagnostics since 2013. John started as an Engineer II, Systems and progressively advanced to roles such as Senior Engineer, Systems and Manager, Instrument Engineering. Currently, they hold the position of Sr. Manager, instrument engineering.

John Gorman has a strong educational background in electrical engineering and physics. John obtained their Master of Science (MS) degree in Electrical Engineering from Caltech, where they attended from 2006 to 2013. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Physics and Applied Mathematics from California State University, Long Beach, which they completed from 2002 to 2004.

In addition to their academic degrees, John has also obtained several certifications. In 2004, they received an Intermediate Sailing Certification from the American Sailing Certification. In 2009, they obtained the OSHA General Industry Safety and Health Certification from OSHA. In 2010, they completed the Stanford Fundamentals of Project Management course at Stanford University. Lastly, in 2011, they completed the Blood-borne Pathogens Training (HIV BSL-2) course at the California Institute of Technology.
