Derek Smith is a highly skilled scientist with extensive experience in biotechnology and pharmaceutical research. Since 2024, Derek has served as a Principal Scientist at Gilead Sciences. Previously, Derek held the position of Senior Scientist at Sana Biotechnology, Inc. from 2021 to 2024 and worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Genentech from 2016 until October 2019. Notable projects include identifying the cell of origin in mTOR-dependent pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors and conducting a CRISPR-based genetic screen of human iPSC-derived kidney organoids. Derek's technical expertise encompasses mouse models, single cell RNA sequencing, mammalian and human iPSC culture, antibody dosing, CRISPR technology, AAV8, and Nanostring digital spatial profiling.
