Derek Spencer

Derek Spencer is an experienced healthcare professional serving as Executive Director at Gilead Sciences since November 2014, where oversight and strategic development for the FOCUS program across the U.S. has been a key responsibility. Previously, Derek held the position of Senior Regional Director, managing a team and contributing to the FOCUS Leadership Team for regions including the U.S., Portugal, and Spain. With a foundation in HIV care, Derek directed the JACQUES Initiative at the Institute of Human Virology at the University of Maryland from 1999 to October 2014, launching a significant adherence program that transformed into a multidisciplinary clinic. Earlier experience includes delivering care as a primary care provider at IHV and managing nursing roles at Johns Hopkins Medicine. Derek holds a Master of Science in Adult Primary Care Nurse Practitioner and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Maryland School of Nursing, along with an Associate of Arts in Medical Laboratory Technician from Villa Julie College.
