Alex Ives

Alex Ives is an experienced engineering manager with a strong background in backend development and team leadership. Currently managing a team of eight database-focused Rails backend engineers at GitLab since September 2019, Alex aims to provide scalable solutions for customer demands. Previous roles include a senior backend engineer position at GitLab, where performance enhancement of database code was a primary focus, and a software engineer at Farm Vision Technologies, contributing to web applications and cloud infrastructure development. Alex also has experience as a team lead and senior software engineer at Granicus, where work involved varied technologies such as Kotlin and Ruby on Rails, and as a software engineer at Code 42 Software, Inc., focusing on feature completion for a server product. Alex began as a software engineer and designer while running an independent company, and earlier roles include IT coordinator and student technical assistant. Alex holds a BS in Computer Science and Mathematics from Augsburg University.
