John Morijn is an esteemed academic currently serving as the NGIZ endowed professor of law and politics in international relations and assistant professor of European human rights law at the University of Groningen since September 2019. In addition, Morijn holds the position of lead expert on rule of law for Ukrainian EU accession at Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH since July 2024 and has been a visiting professor at the Luiss School of Government since September 2025. Morijn also contributes as the vice-chair of the scientific committee for the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights beginning in June 2023. The educational background includes a comprehensive study period at the European University Institute from 2003 to 2009.
